Parliament sets no date on ratification of demarcation GazetaExpress

Kosovo Parliament Speaker, Kadri Veseli, said he believes Vetevendosje MPs will vote ratification of the Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro.

Addressing the media on Thursday after the Parliament Presidency meeting, Veseli said that he remains optimistic that the demarcation will be ratified, although no date has been set yet to vote the demarcation deal in the Assembly. He said that the new Parliament session on demarcation will be held soon, reiterating that time has come for Kosovo “to end isolation of Kosovo citizens.” Veseli said that during Thursday’s meeting members of the Presidency discussed new Assembly Rules of Procedures but not the date of a new Assembly parliament session on ratification of the border deal. Last week Kosovo Parliament failed to vote ratification of demarcation with Montenegro due to lack of the 80 votes necessary to ratify this international agreement. Ruling coalition partners are struggling to get 80 votes after opposition party of Vetevendosje is opposing the deal claiming that under current Agreement Kosovo would be deprived of more than 8,000 hectares of land. Also Serbian MPs have boycotted Parliament session last week and have stated that ratification of demarcation is not their priority. Ratification of demarcation is one of the last criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisation.
