Kosovo Special Prosecution takes over Ivanovic murder Investigation GazetaExpress

Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK) has taken over the investigation into the killing of Kosovo Serb politician, Oliver Ivanovic, from local prosecutors because of the complexity of the case, media are reporting.

The head of SPRK, Reshat Millaku, told BIRN on Thursday that it has taken over the Oliver Ivanovic assassination probe “due to the complexity of the case”. The case had previously been led by two prosecutors from the Basic Prosecution Office of Mitrovica - an ethnic Albanian, Njazi Rexha, and a Serb, Jova Radovic. Ivanovic was gunned down in the Serb-majority north of Mitrovica on January 16 outside the offices of his Freedom, Democracy, Justice party. According to BIRN the well-known politician had said several times before he died that he and his family had received threats, and had asked Kosovo, Serbia and others for help – but without any response. The case is still open and there have been no arrests so far. Ivanovic was an opponent of the Belgrade-backed Kosovo Serb party, Srpska Lista, which is now part of the Kosovo government. At the time of his death, he was being retried for ordering the murder of Kosovo Albanians during the war in 1999. He pleaded not guilty.
