Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commission President, accompanied by High Representative Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Hahn, are expected to visit Kosovo today as part of their Western Balkan tour.
According to the EU Office in Kosovo, President Juncker and the EU delegation will meet with President Hashim Thaci, Speaker Kadri Veseli and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, as well as hold a town hall meeting with Kosovo media, civil society, entrepreneurs, students, professors, youth from political parties, artists, culture workers, sportspeople, EU programme alumni, EU Heads of Mission, and representatives of the international community.
Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, in an opinion piece written on Tuesday said that President Juncker’s visit confirms Kosovo’s European perspective and will demonstrate that the EU is on the side of the people of Kosovo, as they work hard to move closer to the European Union. The European Commission senior officials are visiting Pristina the day the Parliament of Kosovo is expected to vote on ratification of the Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro which is one of the two remaining criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisation with the EU Schengen area. The other condition is fighting organised crime and corruption.
